Dr. Tina Domingo of Davao Doctors Hospital is taking care of the dental needs of Oliver.
We at Shine seek to provide the best for mour wards and clients. There is a time for everything. And this time, the trainees are also taught how to take care of the environment. In this particular instance, repairing the furniture and tools. They took to the tasks completely. On Day 1 of the module, they sanded off the old paint. Here on Day 2, they painted on the primer. Finally, on Day 3, they applied the paint. Well done, boys. As a culminating activity in celebration of Nutrition Month, Shine Life Skills Center gave our trainees and residents hands-on session in healthy food preparation, including fresh fruit salad. They worked so well in the kitchen. Watch out for more food preparation activities in the future.
Social work interns from Holy Cross, Janine and Trihsa join our staff, Dranreb, Mauren, Freda and Reymart in leading our trainees in different activities. For today, Trihsa ands Janine led the singing of action songs. The center was filled with laughter as they did the songs over and over. Later, the group went outdoors to play with the chicks.
Last Sunday, June 14 was a pleasant summer day and on such days, the boys of SHINE do gardening. They collected the fallen santol fruits, leaves and branches. In other words, they cleaned up the garden. Great job!
This month, Mauren Gill Tapere joined Shine Life Skills Center as the Trainor of the clients. She is an experienced Social Worker and has chosen to join our time to meet the challenge of broadening our linkages and attracting more clients.
Our former Trainor, Christiam moved on to work with government and we thank her for her service of close to two years. Cenacle ladies who pray were the recent visitors at Shine. They brought the Blessed Virgin Mary and led the praying of the rosary and other prayers. They brought a feeling of hope and faith to our staff and clients.
Joseph gladly prepared the snacks of pizza for the guests. They had a nice time chatting and relaxing after the prayers. We always look forward to visits and interactions. Do come over, friends. Valentine's Day was a truly warm and joyful day at Shine with the visit of college students of Rizal Memorial Colleges. Their teacher, Annalee Velesrubio organized this day of interaction to acquaint and orient her students with the differently-abled. They donated balls, but more importantly, they spent four valuable hours playing with our clients. It was an EYE-OPENER for most. It was their first time to encounter persons who cannot speak, yet reached out to them and indicated their needs. It was also significant for our residents to have interact with guests. We encourage visitors and look forward to more guests. Thank you Annalee Velerubio and to your students for bringing joy to our center. Good news, friends,
Joseph, who has been with us since we started in 2013, has been steadily practicing his baking skills. Last Christmas, was his first foray into selling his goods - packs of cookies in Christmas motifs and with nuts. He has successfully perfected the texture, the doneness and most specially, the taste that is not too sweet of his cookies. At our Christmas Open House, he sold out his goodies. Later, he joined a Bazaar at the Robinsons Supermarket of Abreeza. We are so proud of you, Joseph. Keep it up. |
